How can I reroute a package with courier companies?
Before we answer how to reroute a package, you should know until what moment you can request such a change. In most cases, you can reroute the package to a new destination with DHL, FedEx, Royal Mail or even Eurosender until the parcel is collected. Once the shipment is already in transit, in most cases, you may encounter difficulties rerouting it to another address.
As a general rule, you can redirect shipments by contacting the courier company and requesting to change the address for your delivery. Usually, this change can be done until the moment is collected and at least 24h before collection.
How to reroute packages with DHL
You can redirect your shipment and change their address by requesting directly on their website if you use the DHL Parcel service or contact them directly. You can reroute your package to a new address destination, a locker point, a neighbour place, or any other address that you find convenient.
Rerouting packages with FedEx
Now, how to reroute your packages with FedEx is a similar process to many other couriers. In most cases, you can redirect your package to FedEx by contacting them directly, and it is usually the sender who has to make this request. Bear in mind that additional fees and charges may apply.
Can someone redirect my parcel with the tracking number?
In most cases, only the sender of the package can redirect a parcel to another destination. Therefore, if someone got a hold of your tracking number, almost in every case, they will not be able to change the address and reroute a shipment.
Changing delivery address to reroute my shipment
Basically, rerouting parcels means that you are changing the shipment’s delivery address. So, firstly, you will have to contact the company to check if you can still redirect the shipment. They will tell you the alternatives and, if applicable, what are the extra charges.
If you can still change the delivery address, ensure you provide a new one with accurate postcodes and complete details.
Keep in mind that different transit times or charges may apply when redirecting a parcel, depending on the location of the new address. The courier service provider will give you a new estimated delivery time.
When is redirecting parcels not possible?
If the parcel has already reached its destination, you can no longer request rerouting.
In the absence of the receiver, the courier company will store the parcel in their local depot for a few days. If you wish your package to be redirected to a different address destination, you will have to book a new delivery service.
Moreover, redirecting a shipment may not be possible every time. Check the possibility directly with the company whose services you booked.
